Jacques Goddet was a French sports journalist and cycling race director. He was the director of the Tour de France from 1936 to 1986. He was born in Paris on 21 June 1905. Goddet was a passionate cyclist and a journalist for the sports newspaper L'Auto. He was appointed director of the Tour de France in 1936, and he held the position until 1986. During his tenure, he introduced several innovations to the race, including the introduction of the yellow jersey for the race leader, the introduction of mountain stages, and the introduction of the team time trial. Goddet was also a successful race organizer, and he organized the Tour de l'Avenir, the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, and the Tour de Suisse. He was also a member of the International Olympic Committee from 1952 to 1972. Goddet died on 28 April 2003 in Paris. He was 97 years old.
