Ivy Benson was an English bandleader, saxophonist, and clarinetist. She was born in Holbeck, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, UK on 11 November 1913. She was the daughter of a coal miner and a seamstress. She began playing the saxophone at the age of 12 and formed her own band at the age of 15. Ivy Benson and her All Girls Band was one of the most popular bands in the UK during the 1940s and 1950s. She was known for her energetic performances and her ability to play a variety of musical styles. She was also known for her signature style of dress, which included a white suit and a bowler hat. Ivy Benson and her All Girls Band toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She also performed on BBC radio and television. Ivy Benson retired from performing in the late 1960s and died in Leeds in 1993. She was 79 years old.
