Irving Foy was an American writer and editor. He was born in New Rochelle, New York, and attended the University of Michigan, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1930. After college, he worked as a reporter for the New York World-Telegram and the New York Post. Foy wrote several books, including The Great American Novel (1937), The Great American Short Story (1938), and The Great American Play (1939). He also wrote for magazines such as The Saturday Evening Post, Collier's, and The New Yorker. In addition to his writing, Foy was an editor for several publishing houses, including Simon & Schuster, Random House, and Harper & Brothers. He was also a professor of English at the University of Michigan from 1945 to 1947. Foy died in New York City on April 15, 1975. He was 66 years old.
