Howie Tamati is a former New Zealand rugby union player and politician. He was born on 3 January 1953 in Waitara, New Zealand. He is the son of a Maori father and a Pakeha mother. Tamati played for the New Zealand All Blacks from 1979 to 1985, and was a member of the 1983 Rugby World Cup winning team. He also played for the Taranaki provincial team from 1975 to 1985. Tamati was elected to the New Zealand Parliament in 1999 as a Labour Party Member of Parliament for the Te Tai Hauauru electorate. He served as a Minister in the Labour-led government from 1999 to 2008. Tamati is currently the Chief Executive of the Maori Sports and Recreation Trust. He is also a board member of the New Zealand Rugby Union and the New Zealand Rugby Museum. As of 2021, Howie Tamati's net worth is estimated to be around $2 million.
