He was born on October 14, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York. Schultz attended Canarsie High School and then Northern Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in communications. After college, he worked as a salesperson for Xerox Corporation and then as a general manager for Swedish drip coffee maker manufacturer, Hammarplast. In 1982, Schultz joined Starbucks as the director of retail operations and marketing. He was promoted to president and CEO in 1987 and chairman in 2000. Under his leadership, Starbucks grew from 11 stores to more than 17,000 stores in over 50 countries. In 2018, Schultz stepped down as CEO of Starbucks and became executive chairman. He is also the founder of the Schultz Family Foundation, which focuses on education, job creation, and poverty alleviation. As of 2021, Howard Schultz's net worth is estimated to be $3.3 billion.
