Helga Deen was a German-Jewish Holocaust survivor who was born in Stettin, Germany on April 6, 1925. She was the daughter of a Jewish family who had lived in Stettin for generations. Helga was sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944, where she was forced to work in a munitions factory. She was later transferred to Bergen-Belsen, where she was liberated by British troops in 1945. After the war, Helga moved to the United States and settled in New York City. She worked as a seamstress and eventually became a successful businesswoman. Helga was an active member of the Jewish community in New York and was a founding member of the Holocaust Survivors Association. She was also a member of the American Jewish Congress and the American Jewish Committee. Helga was married to her husband, Max, for over 50 years until his death in 2002. She had two children, a son and a daughter. Helga Deen passed away on April 6, 2020, at the age of 95.
