Günther Rittau was a German cinematographer who worked in the German film industry from the 1920s to the 1950s. He is best known for his work on the classic films of Fritz Lang, including Metropolis (1927), M (1931), and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933). Rittau was born in Chorzow, Poland, in 1893. He began his career as a cinematographer in the 1920s, working on films such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) and Nosferatu (1922). He went on to work on a number of films for Fritz Lang, including Metropolis (1927), M (1931), and The Testament of Dr. Mabuse (1933). Rittau also worked on a number of other films, including The Blue Angel (1930), The Three Penny Opera (1931), and The Last Laugh (1924). He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography for The Blue Angel. Rittau died in Munich, Germany, in 1976. He was 82 years old.
