Gregg Allman was an American singer-songwriter and musician best known for performing in the Allman Brothers Band. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, and grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. He began playing music at an early age, and by the time he was in high school, he was already performing in local bands. Allman's career took off in 1969 when he and his brother Duane formed the Allman Brothers Band. The band released their debut album, The Allman Brothers Band, in 1971, and it quickly became a hit. The band went on to release several more successful albums, and Allman wrote and sang many of their most popular songs, including "Midnight Rider," "Melissa," and "Whipping Post." Allman also released several solo albums throughout his career, including Laid Back (1973), Low Country Blues (2011), and Southern Blood (2017). He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. Allman passed away in 2017 at the age of 69.
