Godwin Ehigiamusoe is a Nigerian politician and former Minister of State for Education. He was born in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. He attended the University of Benin, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science in 1981. He later obtained a Master of Science degree in International Relations from the University of Lagos in 1985. Godwin Ehigiamusoe began his political career in 1992 when he was appointed as the Commissioner for Education in Edo State. He was later appointed as the Minister of State for Education in the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1999. He served in this position until 2003. Godwin Ehigiamusoe is currently the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs. Godwin Ehigiamusoe is 62 years old as of 2020. He is married and has four children. He is the Founder/Pioneer CEO, LAPO Microfinance Bank and Lift Above Poverty Organization His business interests span microfinance, micro-insurance, agriculture, micro-leasing, healthcare and education, he is also a philanthropist. He began his career in the microfinance sector as a rural cooperative officer before he founded LAPO a pro-poor development organization with operations in Nigeria and Sierra Leone. He stepped down as the MD of LAPO Microfinance Bank in November 2019. LAPO has evolved into a vast collection of mutually reinforcing institutions/businesses providing social and economic empowerment services to Nigerians and Sierra Leoneans.
