Giovanni Agnelli was an Italian industrialist and the founder of the Italian car manufacturer Fiat. He was born on 12 March 1921 in Turin, Italy, to Edoardo Agnelli and Virginia Bourbon del Monte. He was the eldest of five children. Giovanni Agnelli was educated at the University of Turin, where he studied law. After graduating, he joined the family business, Fiat, in 1945. He was appointed managing director of Fiat in 1966 and chairman in 1966. Under his leadership, Fiat became one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. Giovanni Agnelli was also involved in politics and was a member of the Italian Senate from 1976 to 1979. He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984. Giovanni Agnelli was married to Marella Caracciolo di Castagneto and had two children, John Elkann and Margherita Agnelli de Pahlen. He died on 24 January 2003 in Turin, Italy. Giovanni Agnelli had an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion at the time of his death.
