He played for Barbados in the Shell Shield from 1950 to 1961. He also played for the West Indies in two Test matches in 1957. Wood made his first-class debut in 1950, playing for Barbados against British Guiana. He scored his first century in 1951, against Jamaica. He went on to score four more centuries in his career, with a highest score of 166 against Jamaica in 1959. Wood played two Test matches for the West Indies in 1957, against Pakistan. He scored a total of 39 runs in the two matches, with a highest score of 28. He also took two wickets in the series. Gerald Wood is 97 years old as of 2021.
