Freddie Bynum is a former professional baseball player who played in the Major League Baseball (MLB) from 2004 to 2009. He was born on March 15, 1980 in Wilson, North Carolina, United States. He attended North Carolina State University and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2001 MLB Draft. Bynum made his MLB debut on April 6, 2004, and played for the Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Chicago Cubs during his career. He was primarily a utility infielder, but also saw time in the outfield. He was known for his speed and defensive ability. Bynum's best season came in 2006 with the Orioles, when he hit .277 with four home runs and 25 RBIs in 97 games. He also stole 15 bases that season. He finished his career with a .245 batting average, 11 home runs, and 81 RBIs in 441 games. After his playing career ended, Bynum became a coach in the Cubs organization.
