Rodriguez finished a close second to Italian sprinter Mario Cipollini in both the 2002 Milan-San Remo and the 2002 Gent–Wevelgem. Rodriguez has participated in all three Grand Tours, the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de France, and the Vuelta a España. Ahead of the 2015 Tour of Alberta, Rodriguez announced that he would be retiring from competition at the end of the season.
