She began her career in the 1950s and appeared in numerous television shows and films throughout her career. Bay was married to actor and director Max Goffman from 1945 until his death in 1984. She had two children with him, a son and a daughter. Bay was nominated for an Emmy Award for her role in the television series The Golden Girls in 1988.
