Bratu began his career as a player in the youth team of Dinamo București, before making his professional debut in 1998. He went on to play for several Romanian clubs, including Rapid București, FC Argeș Pitești, and FC Vaslui. He also had a brief spell in the Greek Super League with Panionios. Bratu retired from playing in 2011 and began his coaching career with FC Vaslui. He has since managed several Romanian clubs, including Dinamo București, CFR Cluj, and Astra Giurgiu. In August 2014, Bratu started his coaching career as head coach of the second team at Dinamo II București. On 25 February 2018, he was appointed head coach of Dinamo București. He was sacked in September 2018.

2014

In March 2014, Bratu became the head of the scouting department at his former club Dinamo Bucureşti.

2012

In summer of 2012, Bratu signed a one-year contract with Gloria Bistrița, where he spent a few months before announcing his retirement.

Since retiring from football in the middle of the 2012–13 season, Bratu has gone into punditry and is a commentator for DigiSport.

2011

As of January 2011, he signed for Liga I team Gaz Metan Mediaș. He played only 11 games for Gaz Metan, seven of them from the first minute and four as a substitute, and scored a goal, in August 2011, against Voința Sibiu. In the summer of 2012, Bratu was released by Gaz Metan.

2007

In summer of 2007 he was signed by Dinamo București from Nantes Atlantique. In the summer of 2010 Bratu joined Litex Lovech on loan where he stayed until December of the same year.

2003

In 2003, Turkish club Galatasaray announced that they had reached an agreement with Rapid for the transfer of Bratu with the player agreeing to a four-year deal and Galatasaray paying Rapid a $2,1 million.

Bratu made his debut for the Romanian national team on 12 February 2003 in a match against Slovakia. He played a total of 14 matches for his national side on which he scored two goals.

2000

Bratu began his career with Rapid Bucharest shortly after joining the first team, he was loaned to Tractorul Brașov in 2000. At the team he scored eight goals in 27 league games, before returning to Rapid Bucharest. In the Rapid's period Bratu was considered a great talent in Romanian football and made his debut for the Romanian national team.
