Fernando Henrique Cardoso is a Brazilian sociologist, professor, and politician who served as the 34th President of Brazil from 1995 to 2003. He was born on June 18, 1931, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He is the son of Eurípedes Cardoso and Ermelinda Cardoso. He studied sociology at the University of São Paulo and earned his doctorate in 1968. Cardoso was a professor at the University of São Paulo and the University of Paris. He was also a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He was a member of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party (PMDB) and was elected to the Brazilian Senate in 1983. In 1994, Cardoso was elected President of Brazil. During his presidency, he implemented a number of economic reforms, including the Real Plan, which stabilized the Brazilian economy and reduced inflation. He also implemented a number of social reforms, including the Bolsa Família program, which provided financial assistance to low-income families. Cardoso left office in 2003 and was succeeded by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He is currently a member of the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (PSDB). He is also a member of the Club of Madrid, an organization of former heads of state and government. As of 2021, Fernando Henrique Cardoso's net worth is estimated to be around $20 million.
