Erskine Hawkins was an American jazz trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is best known for his song "Tuxedo Junction", which was a major hit in 1939. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and began playing trumpet at the age of 12. He attended Alabama State College and then moved to New York City in 1934, where he joined the band of Chick Webb. He formed his own band in 1938, and it became one of the most popular big bands of the swing era. He also composed and arranged music for the band, and wrote the song "Tuxedo Junction", which became a major hit. He continued to lead his band until the 1950s, when he retired from music. He died in 1993.
