Eric Merriman was a British writer, producer, and miscellaneous crew member. He was born on 6 December 1924 in London, England. He was best known for his work on the television series The Good Life (1975-1978). Merriman began his career in the 1950s, writing for the BBC radio series The Navy Lark. He went on to write for a number of other radio and television series, including The Army Game, The Rag Trade, and The Liver Birds. In 1975, Merriman wrote the script for the first episode of the BBC sitcom The Good Life, which starred Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal. The show was a huge success, running for four series and becoming one of the most popular sitcoms of the 1970s. Merriman also wrote for the BBC sitcoms Don't Wait Up (1983-1990) and All Night Long (1985-1987). He also wrote for the ITV sitcoms The Upper Hand (1990-1996) and The Crouches (2003-2005). Merriman's other credits include the films The Bitch (1979) and The Plank (1979). Merriman passed away in London on 28 April 2020, aged 95.
