She began her career in the theater, appearing in productions of "The House of Bernarda Alba" and "The Glass Menagerie." She made her film debut in the 1983 drama "El Norte," and went on to appear in films such as "La Bamba," "Jacob's Ladder," "Lone Star," and "Rush Hour." She also had a recurring role on the television series "I Married Dora." Peña died on October 14, 2014, at the age of 55.
