El Hachemi Abdenouz is an Algerian long-distance runner who was born on 1 July, 1956 in Algerian. He is best known for his achievements in the marathon, having won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won the silver medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome and the bronze medal at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. Abdenouz began his running career in the late 1970s, competing in local races in Algeria. He quickly rose to prominence, winning the Algerian National Championships in 1981 and 1982. He then went on to compete in international competitions, winning the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Abdenouz continued to compete in international competitions throughout the 1980s and 1990s, winning the silver medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome and the bronze medal at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo. He also competed in the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, finishing in sixth place. Abdenouz retired from competitive running in the late 1990s and is now a coach and mentor to young Algerian runners. He is currently 67 years old.
