Edward Asner is an American actor and voice actor. He is best known for his role as Lou Grant on the television series The Mary Tyler Moore Show and its spin-off, Lou Grant. He has won seven Emmy Awards and has also been nominated for an Academy Award. Asner was born on November 15, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Wyandotte High School and the University of Chicago. After college, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Asner began his acting career in the 1950s, appearing in television shows such as The Philco Television Playhouse and Studio One. He made his film debut in the 1960s, appearing in films such as The New Interns and The Out-of-Towners. In 1970, Asner was cast as Lou Grant on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He won seven Emmy Awards for his performance on the show. He also starred in the spin-off series Lou Grant, which ran from 1977 to 1982. Asner has also appeared in numerous films, including Up, Elf, and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. He has also provided the voice of Carl Fredricksen in the Pixar film Up. Asner has been married twice. He has four children from his first marriage and one from his second. As of 2021, he is 92 years old and has an estimated net worth of $10 million.
