Eddie Barefield was an American jazz saxophonist, clarinetist, and bandleader. He was born in Scandia, Iowa, and began playing professionally in the 1920s. He worked with many of the top jazz musicians of the time, including Louis Armstrong, Earl Hines, and Benny Goodman. He also led his own bands, including the Eddie Barefield Orchestra, which recorded for Decca Records in the 1930s. He was a member of the Count Basie Orchestra from 1938 to 1940. In the 1940s, Barefield moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a studio musician and arranger. He also worked as a music director for the television show The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. He continued to perform and record until his death in 1985.
