Eddie Allen is an American jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator. He has been a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra since its inception in 1987. He has also performed with the Mingus Big Band, the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. Allen was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and began playing trumpet at the age of nine. He attended the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he studied with trumpeter Bobby Lewis. He later studied at the Manhattan School of Music, where he earned a master's degree in jazz performance. Allen has released several albums as a leader, including "The Power of the Horn" (1991), "The Power of the Horn II" (1995), and "The Power of the Horn III" (1999). He has also appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman, including albums by Wynton Marsalis, the Mingus Big Band, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra. In addition to his performing career, Allen is an active educator. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Manhattan School of Music, and the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He is also a faculty member at the Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School Jazz Academy.
