Ed Searcy is a retired American basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1974 to 1982. He was born on April 17, 1952 in New York City, New York. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a two-time All-American. Searcy was selected by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1974 NBA Draft with the 11th overall pick. He played for the Trail Blazers for four seasons before being traded to the New York Knicks in 1978. He played for the Knicks for two seasons before being traded to the San Diego Clippers in 1980. He played for the Clippers for two seasons before retiring in 1982. During his NBA career, Searcy averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He was also a member of the 1979 NBA All-Star team. After retiring from the NBA, Searcy returned to Chapel Hill and earned his degree in physical education. He then went on to become a basketball coach at the high school and college levels. He is currently the head coach of the men's basketball team at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
