Dwight Smith is an American professional baseball outfielder who currently plays for the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on August 13, 1978 in Detroit, Michigan. Smith attended the University of Michigan, where he played college baseball for the Wolverines. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the first round of the 2001 MLB Draft. Smith made his MLB debut with the Cubs in 2003. He played for the Cubs until 2006, when he was traded to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He played for the Devil Rays until 2008, when he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. He played for the Orioles until 2011, when he was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays. Smith is a two-time All-Star, having been selected in 2005 and 2006. He has also won a Silver Slugger Award in 2006. In his MLB career, Smith has batted .265 with 1,093 hits, 545 runs, and 545 RBIs. Smith signed a three-year deal with the Vikings in July 2006. On February 20, 2008 the Vikings released him.

On February 27, 2008, he signed with the Detroit Lions. He will receive $5 million over 2 years. The deal reunited Smith with Lions' head coach Rod Marinelli and defensive coordinator Joe Barry, both of whom were assistants on the Tampa Bay staff when the veteran safety spent the first four seasons of his NFL career as a standout Bucs' defender.

He was the first player ever to score 2 touchdowns on interception returns in Super Bowl history.

He attended the University of Akron, where he played for the Akron Zips football team from 1997 to 2000. As a senior in 2000, he had 10 interceptions and was recognized as a consensus first-team All-American at defensive back along with being a finalist for the Thorpe Award.
