Donald Ross, Lord Ross is a British politician and former Member of Parliament. He was born on 29 March 1927 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was educated at the University of Edinburgh and the University of Glasgow. He was first elected to the House of Commons in 1959 as a Conservative MP for the constituency of Edinburgh North. He held the seat until his retirement in 1987. During his time in Parliament, he served as a Minister of State for Scotland from 1979 to 1983. He was made a life peer in 1988 and took the title Baron Ross of Marnock. He was a member of the House of Lords until his retirement in 2015. Lord Ross was a keen supporter of the devolution of power to Scotland and was a member of the Kilbrandon Commission, which recommended the creation of a Scottish Assembly. He was also a keen supporter of the European Union and was a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1984. Lord Ross was married to Lady Margaret Ross, with whom he had two sons and two daughters. He died on 28 April 2021 at the age of 96.
