Don Vappie is an American jazz musician, composer, and music educator. He is best known for his work in traditional jazz, ragtime, and blues. He has released several albums as a leader, and has performed with many notable jazz musicians, including Wynton Marsalis, Dr. John, and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Vappie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and began playing music at an early age. He studied classical violin and jazz guitar at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts, and later attended the University of New Orleans. He has performed with many of the city's top jazz musicians, including Ellis Marsalis, Alvin Batiste, and Harold Battiste. Vappie has released several albums as a leader, including "Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders" (1996), "Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders Live at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival" (1998), and "Don Vappie and the Creole Jazz Serenaders Live at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival" (1999). He has also composed music for television and film, including the score for the HBO film "Treme". Vappie is currently a professor of jazz studies at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is also a member of the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Fellowship.
