He is best known for his work on the television series "The Flying Doctors" and "The Sullivans". He also composed the music for the feature films "The Man from Snowy River" and "The Lighthorsemen". Harper began his career as a pianist and arranger in the 1940s, and went on to become a prolific composer for television and film. He wrote the music for over 200 television series and films, including "The Sullivans", "The Flying Doctors", "The Man from Snowy River", "The Lighthorsemen", "The Last Outlaw", "The Shiralee", "The Heroes", "The Long Arm", "The Last Frontier", and "The Last Wave". Harper was awarded the Order of Australia in 1989 for his services to the Australian film and television industry. He passed away in 2006 at the age of 85.
