Dominique Fernandez is a French writer, essayist, and literary critic. He is best known for his works on Spanish literature, particularly the works of Miguel de Cervantes and Francisco de Quevedo. He has also written extensively on the works of French writers such as Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, and Jean Genet. Fernandez was born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Hauts de Seine, France. He studied at the Sorbonne and the École Normale Supérieure. He has taught at the University of Paris, the University of Madrid, and the University of Barcelona. Fernandez has written numerous books, including The Spanish Labyrinth (1962), The Poetry of Francisco de Quevedo (1966), The Novels of Miguel de Cervantes (1970), and The Poetry of Miguel de Cervantes (1974). He has also written several essays and articles on Spanish literature, including The Spanish Novel (1975) and The Spanish Theatre (1977). Fernandez has received numerous awards for his work, including the Prix de l'Académie Française in 1962, the Prix de l'Académie Espagnole in 1966, and the Prix de l'Académie Française in 1974. He was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic in 1975.
