David Vogan is an American mathematician who was born on 8 September, 1954 in Mercer, Pennsylvania, United States. He is currently 69 years old. Vogan received his B.A. from Harvard University in 1976 and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1981. He is currently the William Caspar Graustein Professor of Mathematics at MIT. Vogan is known for his work in representation theory, algebraic groups, and Lie theory. He has written several books on the subject, including Representations of Real Reductive Lie Groups (1989), Representations of Lie Groups (2004), and Representations of Reductive Groups (2007). Vogan has received numerous awards and honors for his work, including the American Mathematical Society's Steele Prize for Lifetime Achievement in Mathematics (2006), the American Mathematical Society's Levi L. Conant Prize (2007), and the American Mathematical Society's Frank Nelson Cole Prize in Algebra (2009). Vogan is married to mathematician Lisa Carbone and has two children. He is an avid runner and has completed several marathons.
