David Burns is a British singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and songwriter of the band Tears for Fears. He has also released several solo albums and collaborated with other artists. Burns was born in Liverpool, England, and grew up in Bath, Somerset. He attended the University of Bristol, where he studied English and Drama. After graduating, he formed the band Tears for Fears with Roland Orzabal in 1981. The band achieved international success with their debut album, The Hurting, in 1983. Burns has released several solo albums, including 1984's Songs from the Big Chair, 1989's Elemental, 1993's Saturnine Martial & Lunatic, and 2004's Tomcats Screaming Outside. He has also collaborated with other artists, including Paul McCartney, Oasis, and The Cure. Burns is married to Caroline Crawley, the former lead singer of the band Shelleyan Orphan.
