Roman was married to Raina Telgemeier (artist of graphic novel adaptations of The Baby-sitters Club series) from 2006-2015. He was a comics editor for Nickelodeon Magazine from 1998 to 2009.

2005

He has contributed to comics anthologies including Flight 3, Not My Small Diary, and Bizarro World for DC Comics. Astronaut Elementary was his weekly webcomic which was awarded a Web Cartoonists' Choice Award for Outstanding New Character Design in 2005. It is being published as a series of graphic novels under the name Astronaut Academy. In October 2006 his comic Agnes Quill was published by Slave Labor Graphics and in 2008 it was optioned by Paramount Pictures. He has also designed a CD cover for the wizard rock band Harry and the Potters.
