Dave Greenfield is an English musician and songwriter best known as the keyboardist and vocalist of the British rock band The Stranglers. He was born on 29 March 1949 in Brighton, Sussex, England. Greenfield began playing the piano at the age of five and was a self-taught musician. He joined The Stranglers in 1975 and was a key member of the band until his death in 2020. He wrote or co-wrote many of the band's songs, including the hit singles "Golden Brown" and "Always the Sun". Greenfield was also a prolific session musician, playing on albums by artists such as Robert Plant, Paul Young, and The Damned. He released two solo albums, The Raven and The King of the Fools. Greenfield was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Brighton in 2017. He was also a patron of the charity Music for All. Greenfield died on 3 May 2020 at the age of 71.
