Danny Barker was an American jazz banjoist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, and actor. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and was a major figure in the city's musical culture for over seven decades. He was a member of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival's Hall of Fame, and was a founding member of the Fairview Baptist Church Brass Band. Barker was a prolific composer, writing over 200 songs, including "Save the Bones for Henry Jones," "Don't You Feel My Leg," and "Don't You Make Me High." He also wrote the theme song for the television show "The Jeffersons." Barker was a major influence on many jazz musicians, including Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, and Wynton Marsalis. He was also a mentor to many young musicians, including the late trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis. Barker died on March 13, 1994, at the age of 85. He was posthumously inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2006.
