Damion Reid is an American jazz drummer, composer, and educator. He is best known for his work with the jazz trio The Bad Plus, with whom he has recorded four albums. He has also performed and recorded with a variety of other artists, including Joshua Redman, Dave Douglas, and Kurt Rosenwinkel. Reid began playing drums at the age of four, and was playing professionally by the age of sixteen. He attended the University of North Texas, where he studied with Ed Soph and Ed Smith. After graduating in 2001, he moved to New York City, where he quickly established himself as a sought-after sideman. In addition to his work as a performer, Reid is also an educator. He has taught at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Juilliard School. He is also a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop.
