Damián Szifron is an Argentine film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is best known for his Academy Award-nominated film Wild Tales (2014). He has also directed the films On Probation (2005), The Bottom of the Sea (2008), and The Secret in Their Eyes (2009). Szifron was born in Ramos Mejía, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied film at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. He began his career as a screenwriter and director in television, writing and directing episodes of the series Los Simuladores and Los Roldán. In 2005, Szifron wrote and directed his first feature film, On Probation, which was nominated for the Silver Condor Award for Best First Film. His second feature, The Bottom of the Sea, was released in 2008. In 2009, he wrote and directed the psychological thriller The Secret in Their Eyes, which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. In 2014, Szifron wrote and directed the anthology film Wild Tales, which was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He has also directed episodes of the television series The Young Pope and The Man in the High Castle.
