Dai Tamesue is a Japanese former track and field athlete who specialized in the 400 metres hurdles. He won a bronze medal in the event at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, and a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. He also won the gold medal at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan. Tamesue was born on 3 May 1978 in Saeki Ward, Hiroshima, Japan. He attended Hiroshima University, where he studied physical education. Tamesue began his career in track and field in 1997, when he won the 400 metres hurdles at the Japanese National Championships. He went on to win the event at the Japanese National Championships four more times, in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2002. In 2002, Tamesue won the gold medal in the 400 metres hurdles at the Asian Games in Busan. He also won the bronze medal in the event at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Tamesue won the bronze medal in the 400 metres hurdles. He also competed in the 4x400 metres relay, but the Japanese team did not finish the race. Tamesue retired from competitive athletics in 2006. He currently works as a coach for the Hiroshima Prefectural Athletics Association.
