He is best known for his roles in the films The Last Dragon (1985), The Money Pit (1986), and The Fisher King (1991). Allen began his career in the early 1980s, appearing in several television shows and films. He made his feature film debut in the 1984 comedy The Last Dragon, playing the role of "Leroy Green". He went on to appear in several other films, including The Money Pit (1986), The Fisher King (1991), and The Ref (1994). In addition to his acting career, Allen has also directed and produced several films, including the 1994 comedy The Ref and the 1998 drama The Big Lebowski. On April 27, 2011, Allen began his 30th year with WCBS-AM/880. He is now the longest running primary meteorologist on a radio station in the country according to CBS News, the New York Daily News and an interview with Jerry Barmash from the New York Examiner/Fish Bowl NY.

2010

Allen joined WPIX-TV in May 2010 and is now the regular weekend meteorologist for the WPIX 5 & 10 pm newscasts with Kaity Tong. He also covers for Mr. G on weekdays.

2007

On January 11, 2007, Allen joined News 12 Long Island as a fill-in meteorologist. On June 2, 2007, Allen began filling in as weather anchor on WNYW, originally as a short tenure with the station doing weekend weather forecasts. By the end of 2007, Allen continued his weekend role as Fox 5's weekend meteorologist since the departure of Tracy Humphrey. In September 2008, he was named weekend meteorologist and primary fill in for Nick Gregory. Fox5 replaced him with meteorologist Shay Ryan but allowed him to freelance as needed.

Allen previously worked for WCBS-TV until September 2006 and CBS This Morning and CBS Morning News from 1996 to October 1999.
