Claude Bolling is a French composer, arranger, and jazz pianist. He is best known for his jazz-classical crossover compositions, which combine classical music with jazz and ragtime. He has composed over 200 film scores and has released over 100 albums. He has also written several books on jazz and classical music. Bolling was born in Cannes, France, and began playing the piano at the age of six. He studied classical music at the Conservatoire de Paris, and later studied jazz with the greats such as Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. He began his career as a jazz pianist, and later became a composer and arranger. Bolling has composed music for over 200 films, including the Academy Award-winning score for The Tin Drum (1979).
