He was the son of Timeus and Fanny Smith. Smith was a prolific writer, producing over 300 stories and poems in his lifetime. He was a member of the Lovecraft Circle, a group of writers who were influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. His works were published in Weird Tales, Astounding Stories, and other pulp magazines. Smith was married twice, first to Carol Jones in 1921 and then to Barbara Allen in 1945. He had no children. Smith died on August 14, 1961 in Pacific Grove, California. He was 68 years old. At the time of his death, Smith had an estimated net worth of $1 million. He earned his wealth through his writing career.
