He is best known for his mockumentary films, such as This Is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. He has also appeared in numerous films, including The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, and A Few Good Men. Guest was born in New York City, the son of Peter Haden-Guest, a British diplomat, and his second wife, Jean Pauline Hindes, an American. He was raised in both the United States and England. He attended The High School of Music & Art in New York City and The New School in New York City. Guest began his career as an actor in the 1970s, appearing in the films National Lampoon's Animal House and The Long Riders. He then began writing and directing his own films, beginning with This Is Spinal Tap in 1984. He has since written and directed several other mockumentary films, including Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration.
