Chris Perkins was born on August 6, 1954 in American. He is an American lawyer and politician who served as the Attorney General of Florida from 2007 to 2011. He is a member of the Republican Party. Perkins attended the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1976 and a Juris Doctor degree in 1979. He then worked as an assistant state attorney in the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida from 1979 to 1983. In 1983, Perkins was appointed as an assistant United States attorney for the Middle District of Florida. He served in this position until 1987, when he was appointed as a United States magistrate judge for the Middle District of Florida. He served in this position until 1991, when he was appointed as a United States district judge for the Middle District of Florida. He served in this position until 2007, when he was appointed as the Attorney General of Florida. As Attorney General, Perkins was responsible for overseeing the state's legal affairs and representing the state in court. He also served as the state's chief law enforcement officer. He was succeeded by Pam Bondi in 2011. Perkins is married to his wife, Susan, and they have two children. He is a member of the Florida Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

1994

In 1994, Perkins agreed to plead guilty on three felony charges in connection with the House banking scandal. The following year, he was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison for misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions and improperly obtaining bank loans. He was also placed on three years' supervised probation, ordered to perform 250 hours of community service, and told to complete any treatment for alcoholism deemed necessary by his probation officer.

Perkins was elected simultaneously as a Democrat to the 98th and the 99th Congress by special election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father. Perkins was reelected to the three succeeding Congresses (November 6, 1984 – January 3, 1993). The seat that he held, Kentucky's 7th district, was eliminated by redistricting and became Kentucky's 5th district and some counties in Kentucky's 4th district. He did not seek re-election to Congress in 1992 from the new 5th district, in part due to the House banking scandal.
