He is best known for his career on the ATP Tour, where he reached a career-high singles ranking of World No. 16 in 1984. Mottram began playing tennis at the age of nine and turned professional in 1975. He won two singles titles during his career, both in 1982, and reached the quarterfinals of the French Open in 1983. He also represented Great Britain in the Davis Cup from 1977 to 1985, and was part of the team that reached the final in 1978. Mottram retired from professional tennis in 1988 and has since become a tennis coach. He is currently the head coach of the British Davis Cup team. Mottram is married to former professional tennis player, Sue Mottram, and they have two children. He is estimated to have a net worth of around $2 million.
