Bud Wilkinson was an American football player, coach, broadcaster, and politician. He was the head coach at the University of Oklahoma from 1947 to 1963, during which time he won three national championships and fourteen conference titles. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as a coach in 1969. Wilkinson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and attended the University of Minnesota, where he played football and was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. After graduating in 1939, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, Wilkinson returned to the University of Minnesota as an assistant coach. In 1947, he was hired as the head coach at the University of Oklahoma, where he led the Sooners to three national championships and fourteen conference titles. He retired from coaching in 1963 and went on to become a broadcaster and politician. Wilkinson was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1969 and the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1971. He died in 1994 at the age of 77.
