Brigitte Kraus is a German middle-distance runner who was born on 12 August, 1956 in German. She is best known for her success in the 800 meters, winning the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She also won the silver medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki and the bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome. Kraus began her career as a sprinter, but switched to the 800 meters in 1979. She won her first major title in 1981, when she won the 800 meters at the European Championships in Athens. She went on to win the 800 meters at the 1982 European Championships in Athens and the 1983 European Championships in Helsinki. Kraus won her first Olympic medal in 1984, when she won the gold medal in the 800 meters at the Los Angeles Olympics. She also won the silver medal at the 1983 World Championships in Helsinki and the bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome. Kraus retired from competitive athletics in 1989. She currently works as a coach and is a member of the German Athletics Federation. She is married and has two children.
