Brigitte Flierl is a German speed skater who was born on 9 October, 1956 in German. She is a two-time Olympic medalist, having won a gold medal in the 500 m event at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, and a bronze medal in the 1000 m event at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo. Flierl began her career in speed skating in 1972, and went on to become one of the most successful German speed skaters of all time. She won a total of seven medals at the World Allround Speed Skating Championships, including four gold medals. She also won a total of nine medals at the European Allround Speed Skating Championships, including four gold medals. Flierl retired from competitive speed skating in 1988, and since then has worked as a coach and a television commentator. She is currently the head coach of the German national speed skating team. Flierl is married to former speed skater and coach, Uwe Flierl, and they have two children.
