Bevo Francis was an American basketball player who played for Rio Grande College (now University of Rio Grande) from 1953 to 1955. He was known for his incredible scoring ability, setting numerous records during his college career. He was named an All-American in 1954 and 1955 and was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Bevo Francis was born on 4 September, 1932 in Hammondsville, Ohio, USA. He was the son of a coal miner and had seven siblings. He attended Wellsville High School in Wellsville, Ohio, where he was a three-time All-Ohio selection. Bevo Francis was 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 225 pounds. He was known for his incredible shooting ability, setting numerous records during his college career. He averaged 50.1 points per game in 1954-55, a record that still stands today. He also set the single-game scoring record with 113 points against Hillsdale College on February 2, 1954. Bevo Francis was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. He passed away on April 15, 2020 at the age of 87.
