Barbara Bel Geddes was an American actress who was best known for her role as Miss Ellie Ewing in the CBS television series Dallas. She was born on October 31, 1922 in New York City, New York, USA. She was the daughter of Norman Bel Geddes, a Broadway and Hollywood set designer, and Helen Belle (Schwabacher).
Bel Geddes began her career as a Broadway actress in the 1940s, appearing in productions such as "The Voice of the Turtle" and "The Heiress". She made her film debut in 1948 in the film "I Remember Mama". She went on to appear in numerous films, including "Vertigo" (1958), "The Misfits" (1961), and "The Birds" (1963).
In 1978, Bel Geddes was cast as Miss Ellie Ewing in the CBS television series Dallas. She played the role for eight seasons, until 1985. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in the series.
Bel Geddes was married twice, first to Carl Schreuer from 1945 to 1951, and then to Windsor Lewis from 1951 to 1972. She had two children, a daughter, Susan, and a son, Kim.
Bel Geddes died on August 8, 2005, at the age of 82.

Her stepmother, Edith Lutyens Bel Geddes, died on August 16, 2002, at age 95.
Her older sister, Joan, died on September 4, 2001, at age 84. Her sister did a 4-year stint as a researcher and theatrical assistant for their father.
