He attended Princeton High School in Cincinnati, where he was a two-time All-State selection and was named the Ohio Division I Player of the Year as a senior. Askew played college football at the University of Michigan from 1999 to 2002. He was a three-year starter at fullback and was a team captain as a senior. He was also a two-time All-Big Ten selection. Askew was drafted by the New York Jets in the third round of the 2003 NFL Draft. He played for the Jets from 2003 to 2006 and for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2007 to 2009. He finished his career with 1,093 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. As of 2021, B. J.
