Asit Kumar Mal is a 65-year-old Indian politician from West Bengal. He was born on 11 July 1955 in Margram, India. He is a member of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and is currently serving as the Minister of State for Agriculture in the Government of West Bengal. Mal completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calcutta in 1976. He then went on to pursue a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from the same university in 1978. Mal began his political career in 1982 when he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Margram constituency. He has since been re-elected to the same seat in the 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011 and 2016 elections. Mal has held several important positions in the West Bengal government. He was the Minister of State for Agriculture from 2011 to 2016 and the Minister of State for Public Health Engineering from 2016 to 2021. Mal is married to Sharmila Mal and the couple has two children. He is an avid reader and enjoys playing chess in his free time.
